Science Faculty Position

(full-time, exempt, possible housing on campus)

Tilton School seeks an experienced and energetic educator to teach four‑to‑five sections of the life and/or physical sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) at various levels or related electives in our STEAM Division. Flexibility and experience to teach across two or more domains in science is preferred, but not a requirement for consideration.

Science courses at Tilton School aim to help students recognize and appreciate the utility of science as well as its intrinsic beauty. Through discussion, collaborative work, and independent study, Tilton science faculty teach students to read, write, and speak about the scientific world with clarity and precision. Tilton’s science courses occur in integrated laboratory/classrooms, incorporating hands‑on lab experience into the routine of the class.

Empowered in this way, our students cultivate a nuanced, global, and well‑informed world view. As a residential school, Tilton considers the work of faculty broadly, and we engage with students both during and beyond the academic day. Faculty at Tilton can expect to contribute two seasons in the co‑curricular and/or athletic program, serve as a student advisor, and to be responsible for weekly evening and monthly weekend supervisory duties.

This position can include housing.

Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • embrace an initiative‑driven faculty culture focused on advancing Tilton School’s mission
  • possess an understanding of current teaching pedagogies and adolescent development
  • model flexibility in both implementing best learning practices and pursuing success for each student, including a commitment to providing timely and transparent feedback and grading
  • possess a high degree of cultural competency and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and perspectives
  • demonstrate fluency with academic technology that advances learning for students and a willingness to integrate technology into classroom experiences
  • enjoy collaborating with colleagues within and across subject areas, and all aspects of school life
  • invest in the community and participate in the lives of our students outside of the classroom
  • convey patience, empathy, enthusiasm, and optimism in their work with adolescents and faculty
  • possess excellent interpersonal, communication (writing, listening, speaking), and organizational skills, and exhibit the ability to interact and work effectively with students, parents, faculty and other employees
  • commit to self‑reflection, work independently, and pursue professional growth and networking opportunities that will allow for full engagement in discovering and implementing best practices in this role

Other duties for this position include: advising, participation as an athletic coach or activities leader for two seasons each year, and active participation in our residential program including weeknight‑weekend supervision.

Qualifications
  • Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Preferred:
Experience in residential oversight and/or secondary or post‑secondary instruction.
To Apply

Electronic materials only please. If interested, please send a cover letter, resume (including any coaching/afternoon activities experiences) and contact information for three (3) references to employment with “Science – (preferred domains)” in the Subject line.
