As the voice of the Brooklyn business community, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce serves its members through promotion, support, advocacy, and its convening authority to build and maintain a healthy and robust business environment throughout the borough. The Brooklyn Alliance, its economic development arm, provides programs and business development services across Brooklyn’s diverse neighborhoods. Brooklyn Alliance Capital, a CDFI, is the Brooklyn Chamber’s lending arm, providing loans to small businesses, specifically immigrant and minority owned, to increase economic opportunity and create jobs in Brooklyn.
Aboutthe Role
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, the Director of Workforce Development will oversee, execute, and grow a portfolio of economic and workforce development initiatives. The Director will lead an employer-driven approach to supporting Brooklyn businesses, promoting inclusive economic growth through the hiring and development of local talent. The Director will be responsible for building strategic employer and community partnerships and will serve as a subject matter expert by representing the Chamber in Member and public-facing engagements.
The Director will also work to ensure all workforce programming follows contractual objectives and outcomes.
This is a managerial position responsible for overseeing the hiring, training, and ongoing success of a Workforce Development Specialist, whose addition reflects the Department’s expanded portfolio.
Responsibilities- Lead the end-to-end planning and execution of community job fairs
- Engage in significant outreach to local manufacturers to support the creation of Registered Apprenticeship programs, in partnership with MACNY – the Manufacturers Association of NY
- Support the talent acquisition via full-cycle recruiting for both internal Chamber openings and on behalf of Chamber Members and Brooklyn small businesses through the Good Help program
- Direct the department’s staff, including a Workforce Development Specialist, as well as its partnerships, operations, contracts, growth, vision, and overall performance
- Assist in identifying and advancing new funding programs and initiatives
- Represent the Chamber and serve on external boards, committees, working groups, and other related initiatives (such as NYCETC, NYATAP, etc.)
- Support senior leadership as needed, and perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience strongly desired (background in workforce and economic development, staffing, human resources, government or related field)
- Understanding of full-cycle recruiting e,g, job postings, screening, interview prep, and hiring
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail to create compelling reports and communicate with diverse audiences
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills (comfortable using data to evaluate performance and outcomes)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Canva and Mailchimp
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Availability to work as needed for events
- Knowledge of the NYC workforce development landscape, including key stakeholders, agencies, and employer needs is a plus
- Experience organizing and executing successful workforce events (job fairs and employer round tables) is a plus

$87,000 – $97,000 with full benefits package
