Job Description

The Community Strengthening case worker will deliver culturally safe, responsive and flexible services to meet the needs of young people, families and communities, who are at risk or experiencing vulnerability within the Fairfield, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Oran Park local Government areas. The Program will target early intervention and prevention models through workshops, group activities and community development including events with the aim to promote relevant internal services.

The Community Strengthening case worker will collaborate with various stakeholders in the community such as local high schools, educational and employment programs and other government and non-government organisations. The program will ensure and enhance sensitivity and knowledge of the issues and needs of young people, families and communities including First nations and culturally and linguistically diverse people are being met.

The position requires a commitment to organisational values and the achievement of strategic and business objectives. All work undertaken will reflect CORE Community Services Mission and Values.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate Centre based programs in order to address the issues and interests of young people, families and community
  • Collaborate with internal and external agencies to facilitate early intervention and prevention workshops with aims to increase community awareness of local support services.
  • Work within a client-centred, trauma-informed framework that is culturally appropriate.
  • Facilitate evidence-based workshops in schools that centre around personal development and capacity building activities that are in line with the Community and Family Services Outcomes Framework
  • Coordinate and implement community events, activities/excursions and festivals to promote awareness of services offered by CORE CS
  • Provide clear and concise advice, assistance and/ or recommendation strategies to Young People and their families in South West Sydney region
  • Actively marketing and promoting CORE Youth Services programs and activities to new prospective participants and service providers.
  • Complete appropriate referrals for young people, families and persons in community to relevant services to adhere to the No Wrong Door policy
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective professional working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in local and sector networks, working groups and community interagency groups
  • Ensure that all appropriate data is submitted within the set timeframe and are always kept confidential and in a locked cabinet
  • Work collaboratively with staff to facilitate group work activities in line with the Community and Family Services (CAFS) Outcomes Framework.
  • Complete and submit risk assessments, program proposals and evaluations to the manager in accordance with the departmental contractual agreement within set timeframe

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant degree qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in Case management from a strengths-based, trauma-informed and family-focused framework
  • Awareness of child protection issues, with the capacity to identify levels of risk requiring statutory child protection intervention.
  • Knowledge of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998
  • Superior case management skills and previous experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues faced by young people and an ability to advocate for social justice outcomes for the communities that you represent.
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Strong communication, customer service, negotiation and influencing skills, including resilience, with the ability to work under pressure and manage high volume workloads.
  • Demonstrated dedication to work within professional boundaries, integrity and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) individuals and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating group work activities
