Fairfield Memorial Hospital (FMH) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Independent Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our dedicated anesthesia team of 3 full‑time CRNAs. Located in the heart of Southern Illinois, FMH combines the personal connection of rural medicine with the resources and support of a modern healthcare system.
Case Types:
General (B&B), Endoscopy, Occasional radiology, NO OB. FMH is actively recruiting additional surgery specialists.
We are a clinical training site for the University of Evansville Nurse Anesthesia Program. Our CRNAs have the privilege of precepting Nurse Anesthesia Residents and shaping the future of the profession.
Call is shared between all employed CRNAs. Post‑call day off is not guaranteed, but may be permitted when the OR schedule allows.

Education & Qualifications- Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Nursing or Nurse Anesthesia.
- Must be able to fulfill department scheduling needs, including 24/7 call and weekend coverage, as needed.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Illinois.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) License issued by the State of Illinois.
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification issued by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) — must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the AHA.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the AHA.
- Comprehensive Anesthesia Expertise:
Proficient in administering general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients across diverse surgical specialties. - Clinical Proficiency:
Skilled in induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia; adept in airway management, intubation, and life‑support functions during procedures. - Critical Thinking & Decision-Making:
Demonstrates strong clinical judgment and the ability to respond quickly to abnormal patient responses or unexpected complications. - Pre- and Post-Anesthesia Care:
Experienced in conducting pre‑anesthetic assessments, reviewing patient histories and test results, and providing postoperative evaluation and reporting. - Technical Competence:
Able to assemble and operate anesthesia equipment, administer intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetic techniques, and ensure patient safety throughout perioperative care. - Collaboration & Communication:
Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. - Adaptability:
Thrives in a complex environment with both elective and emergency surgeries, maintaining composure and precision under pressure. - Documentation & Compliance:
Maintains accurate anesthesia records and adheres to hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines. - Scheduling Flexibility:
Willing and able to fulfill departmental scheduling needs, including 24/7 call rotation and shared weekend coverage.
- Provide anesthesia services to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care.
- Perform:
- Induction of anesthesia
- Maintenance of anesthesia at the required levels
- Support of life functions during anesthesia administration, including induction and intubation
- Recording of all pertinent events during the induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia
- Recognition and corrective action (including requesting consultation when necessary) for abnormal patient responses to anesthesia or other therapies
- Professional observation and resuscitative care (including consultation when necessary) until the patient has regained control of vital functions
- Perform pre‑anesthesia functions, including:
- Ensuring an appropriate pre‑anesthetic examination has been completed
