Overview

OHC – Specialists in Cancer and Blood disorders, is seeking a medical assistant to join our team at our Fairfield practice. As the only independent adult cancer program in the region, we offer Medical, Radiation, Blood and Marrow Transplant, Gynecologic, and Breast Surgical Oncology services. OHC supports a robust cancer research and clinical trials program, neuro‑oncology, cancer genetics specialists and a supportive care program.

Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
  • Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtain all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Pharmacy in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Inform physician of patient reschedules and no‑shows.
  • Perform other administrative duties, i.e., typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • 0-3 years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
