Our Community and Psychosocial Services are seeking a motivated and experienced Child and Family Therapist (CFT) who will deliver trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally safe therapeutic interventions for children and young people, as well as their families.

About this opportunity

Reporting to the Community and Clinical Practice Lead and working closely with the Family Navigator
, the CFT will focus on early intervention, aiming to reduce risk, promote healing, and strengthen protective factors within the child’s socio-ecological environment.

The role provides individual, family, and group-based therapeutic support, psychoeducation, and strategies to build emotional regulation, empathy, and healthy relationships. ensures holistic care that addresses intersecting needs such as housing stress, school engagement, and carer wellbeing. The position also contributes to workforce capability through reflective practice, cultural supervision, and alignment with national clinical frameworks and minimum practice standards.

You will bring the following essential attributes and skills to this role:
  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or related field, with post-graduate qualifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children, young people and families in a clinical or therapeutic role who displayed problematic or harmful sexual behaviours.
  • Experience using evidence-informed, trauma-focused interventions tailored to the developmental stage and cultural context children and family, such as play-based, narrative, cognitive-behavioural, and psycho educational strategies.
  • Registration with the appropriate governing body (e.g. AHPRA, APA).
  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to acquire.
  • A current Working with Children Check or willingness to acquire.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Valid Class C NSW Driver’s license and vehicle.
  • A high level of communication skills with the capacity to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

    Strong organisational skills to manage multiple cases and programs efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Cultural Competence:
    Demonstrated capacity to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Conflict Management:
    Proficiency in facilitating dialogue, mediating disputes, and managing conflicts.
  • Ability to work as a team member and with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong computer and IT literacy skills, in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Work Health and Safety and Fair Foundations Cultural Diversity Principles.
