Note: The schedule is Monday through Friday. This role offers a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

Purpose and Impact

Works as part of a teaching team in developing activities for preschool children. Assists the teacher in implementing educational objectives and performance standards. Works with families to promote parent involvement. May serve as Bus Monitor. May perform additional duties based on program needs and areas of developing expertise. Participates in HS/EHS Quality Assurance efforts.

Essential Functions
  • Participates in pre-service training.
  • Implements approved curricula in the classroom.
  • Understands Head Start Performance Standards and component plans.
  • With the teacher, guide and facilitate activities of the children (daily activities, field trips, equipment/materials).
  • Cooperate with staff to maintain smooth center operations.
  • Write weekly observations per assessment procedure.
  • Discuss child development with families during conferences; assist parents in developing observational skills.
  • Assist with meals, social/self-help skills, and nutrition practices.
  • Assist as bus monitor when needed and engage children during transport.
  • Support social skill development in children.
  • Attend staff trainings and meetings as requested.
  • Help maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Aim for 80% of children to be kindergarten ready.
  • Support quality staff-child interactions to achieve CLASS scores within target ranges.
  • Use active supervision techniques and maintain positive behavior.
  • Achieve satisfactory or higher on the Teacher Assistant Success Rubric.
  • Assist in maintaining portfolios with weekly observations and child work samples.
  • Assist in conducting home visits and parent conferences to discuss development; solicit parent observations.
  • Assist with daily health and environment checks.
  • Assist in recruiting and orienting volunteers.
  • Maintain confidentiality per policies and procedures.
  • Assist in completing required reports and timely time sheets.
  • Distribute newsletters and information to families as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Attend trainings, workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Other Functions

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds and assist in transportation of children; reasonable accommodation provided for qualified individuals.

Education

High school diploma or GED; and

A National Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) for Preschool Endorsement; and

A National CDA for Infant/Toddler Endorsement or Florida Child Care Professional Certification (FCCPC), or enrolled in a degree program with related credentials; and completion of 45 hours Florida Child Care Facility training and a 10-hour Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Preschoolers within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Education

Associate degree in Early Childhood Development or related field with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education; and completion of 10-hour Developmentally Appropriate Practices for Preschoolers and 45 hours Florida Child Care Facility training within 12 months of hire.

Other Requirements

Certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days of hire; background screening and health requirements; bilingual skills preferred (English/Spanish or other languages).
