Inova Heart and Vascular Institute is seeking an experienced advanced practice provider for a full‑time position with our inpatient Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology Team.

Thoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with surgeons and interventional pulmonologists to assess and manage the care of acutely injured or critically ill surgical patients in the inpatient setting.
  • Management of patients in the emergency department, intensive care unit, intermediate care unit, and floor.
  • Administer medications and treatments.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs, laboratory values, and response to treatment.
  • Assist or perform appropriately privileged procedures, such as thoracentesis, pleural catheter placement and removal.
  • Obtain and maintain advanced trauma life support.
  • Provide education to patients and their families on the plan of care and post‑operative management.
  • Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status and changes in condition.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
  • Rotating days with possible nights and weekends.
  • Opportunities to first assist in the operating room.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Board Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with RNFA certification. Employees must maintain certification requirements.
  • ACLS Certification for physician assistants, ACLS and BLS certification for nurse practitioners
  • Current Virginia medical license
  • Current DEA number National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Physician Associate
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Thoracic Surgery or Pulmonology setting
  • Experience in the operating room
