Stormwater Maintenance Supervisor

The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) seeks an energetic Stormwater Maintenance Supervisor who will assist in planning, scheduling, and implementing work assignments under agency programs on a day-to-day basis.

The Maintenance Supervisor works in the field along with the work crew, inspects work sites to determine scope of work to comply with adopted program service levels and recommends priorities for maintenance and repair operations. The Maintenance Supervisor also coordinates equipment use and material requests for work assignments, reviews completed and on-going assignments to ensure the quality of work performed.

The Maintenance Supervisor generates relevant reports, determines utility, facility and property ownerships through research of County land records, development plans, and geographic information systems. Prepares reports and correspondence as assigned. Participates in the annual performance evaluations for five to eight subordinates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and engage in the work of your assigned crew on daily basis.
  • Assist Environmental Services Supervisor (ESS)/Manager in planning, scheduling and implementing work under agency programs on a day‑to‑day, informal, ongoing basis.
  • Recommend priorities for the performance of inspection, maintenance and repair operations.
  • Inspect work sites to determine scope of work to comply with adopted program service, level, engineering practices, and construction standards.
  • Oversee daily production of work crew and completed maintenance item quantities with ESS at end of workday and plan next workday assignments.
  • Tracks and monitors progress of work assignments and generates relevant computer reports through general computer data.
  • Oversee and assist with infrastructure field survey for needed maintenance work orders. Investigates routine citizen complaints, meets with citizens and writes work orders for needed corrective action by county forces or contracted services, as most cost effective.
  • Take immediate action to mitigate emergency situations.
  • Fill out citizen complaint forms.
  • Contact property owners regarding access to job sites and scope of work.
  • Comply with work guidelines and policies for labor crews and subordinates.
  • Coordinate procedures with Agency personnel. Complies with Miss Utility law.
