Diagnostic Sonographer

Work Location: 3022 Williams Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031

Work Hours: PRN As Needed (Anticipated 8 hours/week) with shifts 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday‑Friday

Here Is What You Will Need
  • Education:

    Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program.
  • Certificates:
    Active certification with ARDMS. Current compliance with CME requirements.
  • Professional

    Experience:

    Breast Ultrasound and Diagnostic Procedure experience preferred.
A Day In The Life Of a Diagnostic Sonographer
  • Produces high‑quality ultrasound images and obtain appropriate measurements for each exam.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and scanning technique.
  • Communicates with the radiologist and understands and performs any necessary additional exams.
  • Documents all applicable patient and procedure data consistently and correctly.
  • Explains procedures adequately to patients to maximize patient comfort and cooperation.
  • Appropriate monitoring during all phases of the procedure with special care taken to ensure patient emotional and physical well‑being.
  • Assist and/or chaperones radiologist when they are performing ultrasound exams.
  • Assists radiologists during ultrasound biopsy procedures using appropriate sterile technique and universal precautions.
  • Communicates patient information in a professional and courteous manner to patients and to referring physicians’ offices as required.
  • Maintains the ultrasound equipment for cleanliness and ensures proper equipment maintenance and equipment safety.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with Radiologists and other Center staff members.
