About the DepartmentThe Division for Enrollment Management, part of the Office of the Provost at George Mason University, supports student recruitment, retention, and success. We develop and implement strategic enrollment management plans, create and facilitate processes, and inform policies that guide students through their academic journey from recruitment to post-matriculation. Driven by a commitment to transparent, data-informed decision-making, the Division advances institutional enrollment goals through collaboration, innovation, and a student-centered approach.
The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollment of freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students in alignment with the University’s strategic plan, ensuring a diverse and successful student body that contributes to the institution’s excellence and global impact.
About the PositionThe primary responsibility of the Transfer Admissions Assistant is to provide admissions counseling to prospective transfer applicants in the Office of Transfer Services (OTS). The Office serves prospective, admitted, enrolled, as well as denied transfer students.
George Mason University enrolls approximately 4,500 new transfers annually. Our transfers come from across the Commonwealth of Virginia and around the world. The incumbent will join a university community with a strong commitment to excellence and diversity among its students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities- Counsel prospective, admitted, enrolled, and denied transfer students in individual in-person and virtual meetings;
- Provide timely and accurate follow-up communication with students and stakeholders;
- Complete data entry assignments;
- Collaborate with relevant advising, financial aid, and transfer credit evaluation staff to ensure superior customer service and drive transfer enrollment;
- Support the Office of Admissions in participating in transfer admission events;
- Provide transfer presentations to prospective students at the welcome center and other outreach events.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to manage sensitive and/or confidential student information;
- Proficient with technology and able to learn new systems;
- Ability to work effectively as part of a fast‑paced, collaborative team environment;
- Ability to speak effectively in front of large group;
- Demonstrated customer service experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Previous college/university transfer admission or transfer advising experience;
- Experience with Ellucian Banner software, Salesforce CRM, and/or TES (Transfer Evaluation System);
- Knowledge of military educational benefits;
- Bilingual.
