Summary
:
The Construction Manager will be responsible for on-site observations of Railroad and Railroad related construction projects.

Essential Duties- Coordinate with Railroad and outside party contractors to determine schedule of work.
- Communicate effectively with client, contractor, STV staff, and other project representatives.
- Monitor multiple construction activities daily.
- Review jobsite safety and take immediate action to document and resolve issues of non-conformance.
- Gain and maintain an understanding of applicable industry standards and perform all tasks per standards and client requirements.
- Observe daily construction activities for verification of conformance to the final approved project construction submittals and plans impacting Railroad property and operations.
- Monitor and/or confirm project QC/QA inspection efforts throughout the construction phases impacting Railroad property and operations.
- Maintain a comprehensive daily work report of project activities and oversight observations.
- Track quantities during construction installation.
- Submit accurate personal time sheets, mileage and expense reports on time each week.
- Participate in internal plan and construction submittal review processes to ensure conformance to railroad design and construction specifications prior to the start of work and throughout the project progress.
- Participate and/or perform daily safety job briefings on behalf of the Railroad.
- Perform project preconstruction and progress meetings on behalf of the Railroad client.
- Perform pre-activity meetings over the duration of the project.
Possible mentoring and supervision of other field inspection staff and subcontractors.
Education and/or Experience- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) along with Project Management Information Systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering/technology, Surveying, Construction Management, or any related curriculum is preferred.
- 5-7 years of Railroad or highway infrastructure construction experience is required; field inspection experience with infrastructure projects (utilities, paving, drainage, etc.) is a plus.
- The applicant must demonstrate the propensity to quickly learn and perform the essential duties of the position, and/or demonstrate through education and life experience that they possess the necessary skills.
Employee must complete all Railroad and STV Health and Safety trainings/certifications required, for the respective Railroads upon which he will be working, within two weeks of hire date.
Special SkillsEmployee must be competent in the use of electronic media and associated applications, i.e., smartphone, laptop computer, email, digital photography, data entry, or demonstrate a propensity to learn the systems.
Specialized KnowledgeThe employee must be capable of reading and interpreting contract drawings and specifications.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationNone required, but technical training, certification, or licensing in any areas related to this position is a plus.
Physical DemandsCandidate must be willing to travel out of town as needed on a regular basis. The position may include extended daytime hours, nights, and/or weekend hours. Candidate must be able to traverse rough terrain, steep grades, and sites covered with heavy vegetation. The employee will be required to work on high structures, such as bridges, over water or moving traffic and around numerous tripping hazards.
Candidate must be able to work in extreme weather conditions as all work for this position is conducted in the field in an uncontrolled atmosphere.
The work environment will consist of working in the field in uncontrolled atmospheric conditions such as cold, heat, snow, rain, mud, etc., and may require dealing with pests such as mosquitoes, gnats, flies, snakes, etc. A field office may not be available, so the CM may need to work from/in their vehicle. Sanitary and sustenance facilities are not always readily available.
