Overview
The Pozez Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (Pozez JCC), located in Fairfax, Virginia, is a nonprofit, social service organization that builds community and enriches lives. The Pozez JCC is a community connector, offering programs and services on the main campus, online and throughout Northern Virginia through its partnerships. Position overview
:
The Unit Head will be responsible for the direct support and supervision of the general counselors in their unit. They provide support in all facets of the camp experience to the staff, so that the counselors can perform their jobs at the highest possible level. They are available to the staff members, campers and parents as a resource for all aspects of camp.
- Be a role model for both staff and campers of how to represent Camp Achva and the JCC in a positive manner.
- Uphold and support the mission and vision of Camp Achva and the JCC.
- Follow and enforce all of Camp Achva and the JCC’s policies.
- Accept all other responsibilities as necessary.
- Attend pre-camp planning meetings with the Leadership Team.
- Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of special events and other Camp Achva functions.
- Assist in planning and participate in staff trainings.
- Arrange contingency plans for outdoor activities that may be cancelled due to weather.
- Engage and actively supervise all staff members in the unit.
- Set and document weekly meetings/check-ins with staff members in the unit.
- Report any ongoing staffing concerns to the Assistant Director.
- Ensure counselors are engaged and actively supervising the campers.
- Report any ongoing camper behavioral issues.
- Collect Daily Report Forms from all groups in the unit.
- Collect and handle any Incident Reports that may require immediate attention.
- Communicate daily with the Assistant Director and Director as needed.
- Record and communicate any significant events of the day.
- Communicate effectively with the parents regarding any incidents, behavior issues, or positive experiences of the camper’s day.
- At least 21 years of age and/or have a bachelor’s degree.
- 3-5+ years of experience in working with children.
- Experience working with children of differing abilities is a plus.
- Ability to supervise and coach staff in order to better support campers.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to problem solve and take initiative.
- Team player who is also able to work independently and manage their own schedule.
- Commitment to working collaboratively with others.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs.
