Position Title: Accounts Payable Specialist
Location: Lorton, VA (On-site)
Assignment type: Permanent Hire
Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 / year
Work Schedule: M–F, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job DescriptionOur client is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join a growing organization and play a key role in managing high-volume AP operations. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced environment that requires strong attention to detail, deep knowledge of construction-related payables, and the ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative accounting team.
This role will initially focus on full-cycle accounts payable and offers long-term growth opportunities into additional administrative responsibilities. The position includes a structured cross-training period with a long-tenured team member to ensure a smooth transition.
Key Responsibilities- Process 500–800 invoices per month with accuracy and efficiency
- Review, verify, and match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documentation
- Code invoices to appropriate jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts
- Ensure compliance with subcontract documentation, including lien waivers, retainage tracking, insurance, and W-9 records
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and respond to vendor and internal inquiries promptly
- Prepare and process check runs, ACH, and wire payments
- Maintain organized AP records and documentation
- Reconcile vendor statements and follow up on outstanding items
- Support month-end close processes, including accruals and AP aging analysis
- Assist with audit requests and documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve AP processes and internal controls
- 8+ years of accounts payable experience within the construction industry
- Proven ability to handle high invoice volume in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong understanding of job costing and construction payables processes
- Intermediate Excel skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
- Strong communication skills and professional vendor interaction
- Preferred:
- Experience with Sage or similar ERP/accounting systems
- Experience working in small to mid-sized organizations
