Manager - Federal Financial Management

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Manager – Federal Financial Management to support a high-visibility and growing engagement within the Department of Defense (DoD). This leadership role requires deep expertise in federal financial management, audit readiness, and financial improvement initiatives. This is a direct hire.

The selected candidate will play a critical role in strengthening financial operations, advancing audit remediation efforts, and implementing sustainable best practices across complex DoD financial environments. This position requires strong leadership, technical acumen, and the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple government stakeholders and oversight entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts to evaluate financial risk, accounting processes, and key financial reporting elements to enhance the client’s financial management framework.
  • Drive Financial Improvement & Audit Remediation (FIAR) initiatives and support enterprise-wide audit readiness strategies.
  • Oversee development and execution of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) to address audit findings and material weaknesses.
  • Facilitate audit engagements by coordinating directly with Independent Public Account (IPA) auditors and government stakeholders.
  • Perform and oversee data analytics, reconciliations, and Universe of Transactions (UoT) validation activities.
  • Support automation initiatives to improve financial reporting accuracy and audit traceability.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in:
    • Fixed Assets (major equipment, real property, and buildings)
    • Internal Controls (including OMB Circular A-123)
    • Financial reporting and statement audit support
  • Serve as a liaison between client leadership, cross-functional government teams, and external audit entities.
  • Mentor and lead cross-functional teams while proactively managing multiple work streams in a dynamic federal environment.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in federal financial management, including leadership of teams and complex engagements (DoD experience strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in Audit Remediation, including:
    • Corrective Action Plans
    • Audit facilitation with Independent Public Account auditors
    • Process mapping and documentation
    • Designing and executing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
    • Data analytics and reconciliations (Universe of Transactions)
    • Automation initiatives
    • Fixed Assets (equipment and real property)
    • Internal Controls / OMB A-123 compliance
  • Experience supporting financial statement audits.
  • Strong ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate communications across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Interim Secret Clearance or eligibility to obtain Secret clearance or higher.
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting or managing Working Capital Fund (WCF) environments.
  • Professional certifications preferred:
    • CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
    • CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager)
    • CDFM (Certified Defense Financial Manager)
      PMP (Project Management Professional)

Compensation

$170,000 per year
