ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for a Maintenance Specialist Traffic Control & Electronic Systems Journey 2/Lead in FAIRBANKS to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
This is not typical construction electrical work. As a Maintenance Specialist Traffic Control & Electronic Systems Journey 2/Lead, you’ll maintain the systems that control traffic flow and illuminate highways, directly supporting public safety. You’ll work with a small, close-knit crew on highly specialized electrical systems few electricians in Alaska ever experience—while enjoying a steady schedule, strong benefits, and long-term stability.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair traffic signal systems, roadway lighting, and related electrical infrastructure throughout the Northern Region.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on controllers, detection systems, lighting circuits, and associated electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems in the field and in the shop using specialized test equipment and software.
- Operate bucket trucks and other equipment while working at heights and in live traffic environments.
- Coordinate with fellow technicians, supervisors, and engineers to ensure systems operate safely and reliably.

Working EnvironmentThe position is located in FAIRBANKS. Work is performed both in a maintenance shop and in the field along highways, intersections, and other facilities using bucket trucks and specialized equipment. The position requires outdoor work year-round, often in live traffic and at heights, with travel throughout the region.

Most travel within the region is by truck; travel by small aircraft is rare. Specific Requirements:
Certificate of Fitness Journey Electrician & First Aid/CPR Card.
- Education and experience requirements and related notes are specified in the job documentation.
- ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY; please check residency definition to determine qualification.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements is required; compliance with DOT and federal drug testing policies applies.
- Electrician license with the State of Alaska is required or a conditional hire if licensed in a reciprocal state, with subsequent licensure completion as applicable.
- Supplemental questions are part of the application process.
At time of application, provide a current Electrician’s License, completed reciprocal agreement if licensed in a reciprocal state, and three professional references. At time of interview, provide a current CDL with endorsements (front and back).
