Overview
The International Arctic Research Center (IARC) actively recruits graduate students for research assistantship positions throughout the academic year. These temporary appointments are made on a per‑semester basis and offer an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
Responsibilities & ExpectationsAs a Graduate Research Assistant at IARC, you will work closely with faculty and research staff, contributing directly to ongoing research projects. Your work will support research activities and play an important role in the success of the center’s mission. This position offers valuable professional development and the chance to be part of a multidisciplinary team advancing Arctic science.
To thrive in this role, applicants should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with colleagues and faculty. Attention to detail, proactive problem‑solving, independence and teamwork, adaptability, willingness to learn new skills, and commitment to high standards are essential.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree awarded and pursuing a graduate degree at UAF.
- Master’s degree awarded and pursuing a PhD degree at UAF.
This part‑time exempt student position is located on the University of Fairbanks campus in Fairbanks. Flexible on‑site work arrangements may be considered as the research assignment(s) permit. New hires will be placed on the graduate pay scale depending on education. The position remains open over the entire academic year, reviewed on an as‑needed basis by various departments. It closes June 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Alaska Standard Time.
The graduate research assistantship is union represented (AGWA/UAW).
