The Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) is seeking candidates for temporary positions to support the areas of biology, genetics, wildlife, biomedical, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, and related fields in order to uphold the research and academic missions of the Institute.
Major research programs at IAB include the Center for Alaska Native Health Research, Alaska Basic Neuroscience Program, Center for Molecular and Genetic Studies of Hibernation, Alaska Geobotany Center, Resilience and Adaptation Program, Bonanza Creek Long‑Term Ecological Research program, the Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, and the Toolik Field Station.
Knowledge of the required tasks varies by position and department. Experience and training in scientific laboratory or field techniques in the relevant disciplines, including equipment/instrument usage, lab safety, Haz Mat handling, shipping, and specialized software, are expected as determined by the specific role.
Minimum QualificationsVaries depending on the position. At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Training in scientific laboratory and/or field site techniques in biology, genetics, wildlife, biomedical, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, or related areas.
Additional training such as equipment/instrument training, lab safety training, Haz Mat handling, shipping, computer software, or other required skills depends on the specific position.
Potential travel to remote locations and heavy lifting may be required, as determined by the position. Some roles require a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
