Overview
Summary This entry-level position is part of a multidisciplinary clinical team in a culturally responsive residential treatment setting promoting stability, recovery, and overall well-being of the consumer. The role supports the delivery of rehabilitative services to adults experiencing substance use disorders (SUD) and/or mental health challenges, or youth experiencing Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) and homelessness. Using trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and positive reinforcement approaches, this position provides eyes and ears oversight of consumers to ensure 24/7 safe, therapeutic, and compliant care.
This position also ensures that facility operations meet state regulations, CARF standards, Medicaid requirements, and align with FNA’s mission.
Essential Functions
- Remains on premises during an 8-hour shift to provide coverage of consumers in their residential setting.
- Provides guidance, crisis intervention, de-escalation, motivational interviewing and ensures program policy and procedures are followed.
- Dependent upon educational background may be required to complete training and certification as a Residential Childcare Worker, for programs that have this requirement.
- Completes documentation in accordance with established standards, incident reports and other data in an accurate and timely manner. This may include Electronic Health Records, training records, or Medicaid/billing records.
- Assist with new consumer intake processing to the treatment program.
- Receives incoming calls, takes and delivers accurate messages while maintaining consumer confidentiality during shifts with no clerical coverage.
- Facilitates non-clinical activities to include educational, cultural, recreational, and social activities.
- Conducts room and person searches as instructed as needed.
- Conduct or assist with random drug and alcohol testing (urinalysis, breathalyzer, mouth swab).
- Assist consumers with medication self-administration.
- Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Transport and supervises consumers on activities, field trips and recreational outings and appointments following vehicle operation and safety procedures as needed.
- Cleans up dishes, pots and pans, and work areas after meals, and may, if needed prepare meals when the Cook is not on duty.
- Adheres to the Childcare licensing Regulations, for programs that have this requirement.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and in-service meetings.
- Maintains CPR/First Aid and Respect training on a yearly basis.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of daily living skills and basic understanding of substance use, mental health, or trauma informed care (depending on the program).
- Basic understanding of safety and security practices in a residential setting with ability to follow established procedures and safety guidelines consistently.
- Awareness of confidentiality requirements and resident rights (HIPAA, privacy laws) and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with consumers and documenting activities and incidents.
- Active listening and de-escalation skills with problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, as well as cross-cultural communication styles.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Familiarity with organizational policies, documentation requirements, and reporting protocols with the ability to learn and perform these tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with consumers, colleagues and supervisors while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to report to work on time, work independently, work in teams, and manage time.
- Ability to work swing and night shifts on a regular and recurring basis.
- Ability to train/work alongside seasoned Behavioral Health Technicians.
- Ability to obtain 84 hours of education (Counselor Tech) or 127 hours (BH tech) and skill building towards applying to ACBHC for the BH Tech/Counselor Tech certifications.
- Physical ability to perform duties such as standing.
