Job Title: Sobering Center Technician I

Job SummaryJob incumbent is responsible for assisting in direct client care in the Sobering Center in accordance with TCC policy and procedures. Under the supervision of the Sobering Center Manager, the Sobering Center Technician will assist in observation and support for clients who are intoxicated and incapacitated, but do not require a higher level of care.
Responsibilities- Assist in receiving, monitoring and assessing intoxicated individuals admitted to the Sobering Center.
- Assist in providing basic life support, first aid and related emergency services, as needed.
- Provide daily sanitation and maintenance of Sobering Center facility.
- Conduct interviewing; provide brief intervention and follow-up to sober individuals through the SBIRT process.
- Assist in ordering and tracking supplies.
- Assist with maintaining reports and data for Sobering Center daily activities.
- Participate in Emergency Trauma and/or Emergency Medical Technician training, SBIRT screening, non-violent crisis intervention, and corporate required qualifications.
- Conduct other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or GED required. College coursework/certificate/degree in relevant health field preferred.
- Two years work history. Experience in providing customer or patient care preferred.
- Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures and rural lifestyle.
- Possess ETT certification, or obtain ETT certification within six months of hire. Employees who achieve EMT I certification will be moved into the Sobering Center Technician II position.
- Must maintain strict client confidentiality.
- Must pass background check pursuant to Alaska DHSS and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.
Skills And Abilities
- Must participate in corporate provided trainings for Crisis Intervention and De-escalation, CPR, First Aid and Emergency Medical Skills training for Sobering Center duties.
- Knowledge and experience in the substance abuse field preferred. Ability to work well with individuals dealing with chronic alcoholism and related issues. Ability to appropriately respond to aggressive and violent client behaviors.
- Able to administer client screening, assess results and apply appropriate interventions through the SBIRT protocol.
- Must have a valid Alaska drivers license at time of hire.
- Computer experience, using various Windows applications and database systems preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; calmly and professionally in a challenging environment.
- Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
Job incumbent needs dexterity for reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, turning and twisting. Requires frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds; occasional exertion of 10-25 pounds; occasional exertion of 50-100 pounds (example: to help lift or support a client). Must be available to work outside of traditional work hours due to the 24 hour coverage program (hours worked may be day, night or weekends).
Requires mostly sedentary work with prolonged use of computer, but also includes deep cleaning the facility regularly. Must be able to work in a sometimes stressful environment.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
