Overview

Cognito Systems, a joint venture with Planned Systems International (PSI), is looking for a dedicated and skilled Athletic Trainer to join the U.S. Army's rapidly expanding Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program nwright in Fairbanks, AK.

This role is more than just athletic training; it's an opportunity to be part of the Army's largest human performance optimization initiative. As a key member of an interdisciplinary team, you'll help drive real outcomes, including a 23% increase in Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) pass rates, reduced musculoskeletal injuries, and improvements in behavioral health. The H2F program has already been implemented in 45 active‑duty brigades and is expected to expand to 110 brigades by fiscal year 2027.

Essential Functions and

Job Responsibilities

As an Athletic Trainer supporting the H2F initiative, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with a diverse team that may include physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, dietitians, cognitive performance experts, and occupational therapists.
  • Contribute to soldier readiness by delivering prevention‑focused care, acute injury management, and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Engage in performance optimization strategies that address the five H2F readiness domains: physical, mental, nutritional, sleep, and spiritual.
  • Support unit leaders with evidence‑based strategies to reduce injuries, promote recovery, and enhance overall unit readiness.
  • Leverage data and tools developed by the Center for Initial Military Training (CIMT) to track and improve performance outcomes.
  • Serve as a key player in improving soldier performance, ACFT pass rates, and resilience across the force.
Minimum Requirements
  • bachelor's degree.
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Pass the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC). Hold a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Unrestricted state license/registration/certification in any of the 49 regulated states, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. Hold in‑state licensure as part of the onboarding process.
  • Two years of relevant Athletic Training work experience within the last three years. Experience working with active populations (military, high school, collegiate, professional sports, performing arts, occupational health).
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen. Maintain current physical and immunizations.
Physical Demands
  • Dynamic on‑site, fast‑paced environment. Interaction with soldiers during training or recovery is hands‑on and proactive. Must lift up to 45 pounds and spend time on feet, in the elements, while carrying supplies.
