Medical Assistant

General Summary:Responsible for assisting the physicians, medical staff and administrative team in providing care to patients. Responds to basic patient requests, assists with teaching, caring for and assisting M.D. with patient procedures. Monitors and records patient vital signs and provides assistance with sanitary needs. The position requires a basic understanding of medical terms and procedures.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Assist physician with procedures & assist patient with recovery
• Call in prescriptions & write scripts for procedures
• Return patient calls
• Chart review
• Process lab specimens
• Patient in-take
• Patient teaching for procedures
• Review labs & follow up on abnormal results
• Sterilizing equipment & maintenance of autoclave
• Re-stock rooms & clean carts
• Change biohazard boxes
• Room set-up per protocol/procedure
• Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
• Enter charges into Practice Management system or EMR
• Assist with Administrative duties as needed

Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

:

Must have a basic understanding of medical terms & procedures. Knowledge of sterile technique and the ability to learn to use the sterilizer and clean medical instruments. Must be able to utilize EMR system, as well as various office machinery to include but not limited to computer data entry, copy machine, fax machine & telephone. Good customer service skills, phone etiquette and ability to multi-task are essential.

Education and Experience:

Preference will be given to those with prior experience in a clinical setting but training can be provided to the right candidate if necessary. Most importantly the willingness to learn and commitment to provide excellent patient care.
