Job Description

Want to make a real difference in Alaska's rural communities, and get paid to travel while you’re at it?

We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work hands‑on with communities throughout Alaska, helping them thrive by offering support in everything from local elections and financial management to emergency response and utility services. You'll be a trusted advisor, a relationship-builder, and a go‑to resource on everything from Alaska Statute Title 29 to providing safe drinking water.

You’ll build strong relationships, explore diverse regions of Alaska, and play a key role in making local government work better for everyone. If you're passionate about community impact and love variety in your day‑to‑day, this might be your perfect fit.

Apply now and be a catalyst for change.

The benefits of joining our team:

The Local Government Specialist position comes with several optional perks including part‑time telework, flexible work schedules, and every‑other Friday off.

The working environment you can expect:

As a Local Government Specialist, you'll be part of a supportive team, whether you're collaborating in person or connecting remotely. At the same time, you'll have freedom to own your work, take initiative, and work independently. We're all about teamwork, but we trust you to lead yourself.

We’re searching for someone who brings a mix of real‑world experience, solid communication skills, and a passion for learning. If some of these sound like you, we want to hear from you!

Specific knowledge, skills and abilities we are looking for:

  • Understanding the unique challenges and strengths of rural communities.
  • Knowing how to meet people where they are and offer real support that makes a difference.
  • Experience leading workshops or training sessions for adults, whether face‑to‑face or remotely over platforms like Zoom or MS Teams.
  • Expressed confidence explaining rules, policies, or regulations clearly, whether you’re talking to community members, coworkers, or government folks. Written or spoken, you know how to get your point across.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience with accounting software (like Quick Books or Quicken) and can interpret budgets or financial statements without breaking a sweat, especially in a government or nonprofit setting.
