About Us

Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.

FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.

Smart Start Learning Center is a subsidiary of FCSA and provides daytime care to families in our community. Employees of FCSA are eligible to enroll their children in childcare services and enjoy a discount on their monthly tuition (contingent on enrollment availability).

About the Job

Family Centered Services of Alaska is looking for a Special Education Teacher to teach students in our Secondary School. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for the overall planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of FCSA special education services, basic skill and content instruction, and other specialized educational services, as well as coordinating with the local school district and its schools.academic subjects.

Responsibilities:

Maintain overall responsibility for FCSA educational programs.
Arrange for and facilitate Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings in close coordination with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District (FNSBSD) special education department.
Provide direct individualized instructions in basic skill content, remedial, GED, and individualized education program.
Administers individualized achievement tests in all basic achievement areas, including reading, math, spelling, vocational aptitude, and interests.
Develop instructional objectives for students' IEPs.
Become familiar with each student's Individualized Service/Treatment Plan (ISP) and integrate ISP activities into the educational program as appropriate.
Accurately observe student behavior and implement behavior modification charting system, if applicable.
Motivate, encourage, and manage students to complete required milieu treatment activities.
Provide crisis intervention as needed.
Administer time out procedures.
Assist in planning and implementing recreational and/or arts and crafts activities.
Coordinate the reporting and documentation requirements relative to student performance, grading, and credit transfer to the local school district.
Evaluate the transcripts and school record of newly admitted students to determine their educational needs.
Coordinate with community professionals as required, including FNSBSD personnel, social service agency personnel, probation officers, police, etc.
Attends staff meetings, child study team meetings, trainings, teleconferences, and court hearings.
Assist the clinical staff writing treatment plans and case summaries, as requested, to ensure that IEP goals and objectives are integrated into the therapeutic treatment plan.
Maintains compliance with all state, federal, and local school district laws, regulations, policies, and practices.
Maintain daily reporting and charting on students.
Completes incident reports.
Record administration of medications.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, justice, guidance and counseling, or other human service is required.
Master's degree in education, psychology, social work, justice, guidance and counseling, or other human service area preferred.
Special Education Certified, current Alaska teaching certificate or substitute accepted by FNSBSD required.
Able to work as part of a treatment team.
Physical ability to employ Verbal and Physical aggression control techniques after being certified. (Ability to Physically Restrain adolescent clients). This may require you to bend your knees, extend arms and shoulders and other physical movements necessary to safely restrain a client.
Knowledge of Alaskan childcare regulations.
Current Alaska driver's license, personal vehicle insurance, and driving history that allows for insurability by FCSA auto insurance carrier.
Freedom from criminal convictions that may adversely affect the employee's ability to work safely with children, contingent on a fingerprint & background records check conducted by the State of Alaska Division of Health Care Services Background Check Unit.
Current first aid and CPR certificate or ability to become certified

This position is a driving position . Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.

All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check.
