Overview

What You Will Be DoingAs an Education Coordinator with Goose Creek Correctional Center, you will be responsible for:
- Teaching and assisting prisoners with educational pursuits to include ABE, GED, and ESL.
- Approving and helping with correspondence courses, including test proctoring
- Developing, instructing, and reviewing lesson plans for programs in conjunction with the University of Alaska CIOS program.
- Counseling prisoners in areas of career development, education, and vocational training.

Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will be working in a classroom environment and interacting with other staff and inmates daily.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in education, counseling, social or behavior sciences or a closely related field; AND One year of journey level paraprofessional experience in educational or vocational education programs or services. This experience is equivalent to work such as the Vocational Rehabilitation Assistant 2 or Education Program Assistant, and similar classes with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent with another employer.
Additional qualifying work experience may substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
