Job SummaryJob incumbent will work with contracted Village Clients to perform all aspects of day to day bookkeeping. These tasks include but are not limited to using Quick Books to process payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, initiate payroll tax payments, complete quarterly 941 and State of Alaska tax filing, end of year payroll tax filings, W2s and 1099s. Familiarity with Quick Books online and Quick Books Desktop is required.
Focus is to provide a quality accounting service with emphasis on customer service.
Adhere to the TCC Cheghwtsen model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.
Essential Functions- Process payroll, payroll tax, and submit quarterly payroll tax reports.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable as directed by Tribal Council.
- Prepare check requests.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
- Create and maintain Village bookkeeping electronic files.
- Prepare W2, W3, and 1099 misc.
- Apply a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verify documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies.
- Initiate and process journal entries into various accounts. Participate in internal and external audits, as needed.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- High School Graduate or GED.
- Two to five (2-5) years of office administration or accounting experience preferred.
- Experience working in Quick Books or other accounting software (Sage, Oracle, MIP, or non-profit accounting system) preferred.
- Understanding of procurement policies and practices for federal funding.
- Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska background check.
- Complete daily bookkeeping tasks.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees.
- Ability to meet a constant stream of deadlines.
- Highly detail oriented and organized.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
- Be able to read and write clearly with large volume of paperwork.
- Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. - Physical demands:
There are no unusual demands of the position. Requirements are those of normal office type work with extended hours of sitting and operation of standard office and computer equipment. The job incumbent may be required at times to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of material. Some overtime required when necessary. Be able to hear and speak effectively when interacting with others and vision is required for computer usage, paperwork, and color‑coded documents. - Travel:
This position will be required to travel periodically to assist Village business offices throughout the TCC region. - Summation:
This is a high public contact position with frequent interaction with employees, clients, granting agencies, banking personnel, Tribes, and others. Must have the ability to manage different types of funds, maintain confidentiality and be able to work under pressure in fast‑paced work environment with frequent deadline situations and interruptions.
