Position: Social Studies (Grades 5- 8)

Position Title:

Social Studies Teacher (Grades 5-8)

Under the general supervision of the School Director, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Compensation

Base Salary-Certified-$72,500, (Adv. Degrees $3,000 for masters, $5,000 for doctorate). $200/ year for applicable experience.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Masters preferred)
  • Valid New York Instructional Certificate and Subject Area Endorsement or eligibility
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the use of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality and interests and learning/motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Knowledge of Smart board functions and tools.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students, faculty etc.
  • Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
  • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation.
  • Provide evidence Tdap (Tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis) Rubella, Measles, Mumps, Tuberculosis/PPD Test and Varicella

Essential Performance Responsibilities The Social Studies Teacher Will
  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
  • Conducts instruction with the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
