Job DescriptionAn opportunity has arisen to join the South West London eye screening programme. This is a permanent, full‑time post and the successful candidate will be working 37.5 hours across 5 days per week. NEC Care, part of the NEC Health division, delivers the national diabetic eye screening programme. South West London (SWL) DESP provides retinal screening clinics and image grading to people with diabetes in the boroughs of South West London. We are commissioned by Public Health England to retinal screening on behalf of the NHS and our service is compliant with the National Service Framework (NSF), the National Screening Committee (NSC) guidance, standards and objectives.
Our screeners are at the heart of NEC Care, spending their time on the ground, helping our patients to live longer healthier lives. As one of our retinal screeners you will run local clinics to see our service users and photograph their eyes to assess for diabetic retinopathy.
Responsibilities- Run local retinal screening clinics and photograph patients’ eyes to assess for diabetic retinopathy.
- Grading retinal images efficiently and accurately.
- Communicate results and screening recommendations to patients.
- Prioritize tasks and manage unsupervised workload in a sometimes pressured environment.
- Customer focused with brilliant interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn – as we will provide the necessary qualification.
- Organised and able to prioritise tasks.
- Good problem‑solving skills.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Previous experience working with the public is ideal.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs including grades A‑C in English, Maths and a Science subject or equivalent.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre‑existing right to work and travel within the UK. Documentary evidence will be required.
