Summary
Under the supervision of the pathology manager and histology supervisor, the Pathology Laboratory Assistant provides technical and office support to the department.
Essential Functions- Receive and accession specimens according to policy
- Follow all relevant policies and procedures
- Ensure accuracy of all work performed
- Document discrepancies and follow up to ensure they have been resolved
- Check and document room and equipment temperatures
- Perform routine maintenance on all assigned equipment, following policy and manufacturer’s instructions
- Assist with inventory management
- Date and put away supplies
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment to ensure efficient workflow and compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Efficiently file blocks and slides in order
- Assist with retrieval and re‑file of patient materials
- Help manage returned patient materials and consult reports
- Participate in quality assurance activities
- Engage with everyone in a respectful and professional manner
- Strong people skills
- Demonstrate a high level of communication skills
This role does not have supervisory responsibility.
Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a pathology laboratory.
Physical Demands- Full range of body motion. Manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination
- Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending, lifting, and stooping required
- Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity
- Involvement with management of information concerning physicians, staff, patients
This is a full‑time position, with an 8‑hour work shift, Monday through Friday, and a 30‑minute unpaid meal break. Weekend hours not normally required.

Education and Experience- High School Diploma / GED equivalent required and at least 6 months of pathology or clinical laboratory experience
OR
- Associate’s degree in science
- Medical office assistance and laboratory experience
Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer.
