Vehicle Maintenance Technician - HGV
Join us at Fed Ex as a fully skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician based at our Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Exeter.
Role OverviewAs a Vehicle Technician, you will maintain Fed Ex assets’ safety and reliability by performing service and maintenance on the company fleet of vehicles and trailers in line with planned maintenance schedules. You will ensure the fleet is safe, legal, and fit for duty.
Working hours: 40 per week
Shift: Monday to Friday, all shifts (hours flexible, to be discussed)
Salary: Base Pay £21.70 per hour. Premium paid for hours worked between 7 pm – 10 pm (£2.33) and 10 pm – 6 am (£2.82 per hour).
- Complete signed service and inspection records.
- Prepare defect reports and associated paperwork to comply with legal requirements.
- Prepare vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing (to ensure a first‑time pass).
- Perform ad‑hoc vehicle repairs, investigating and rectifying vehicle defects.
- Ensure the correct and effective safe use of all tools, plant and ancillary equipment.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards and carry out any other duty deemed reasonable by Management.
- Fully skilled with applicable licences or vocational training (e.g., LGV C&E licence – class
1). - City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent in commercial vehicle repairs.
- Knowledge of the use and operation of all automotive equipment and testing/troubleshooting equipment.
- Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
- Experience with welding and basic DC electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Must possess a valid driving licence.
- Previous experience within a similar role.
