Road Safety and Community Risk Manager
We have a fantastic opportunity available for a Road Safety and Community Risk Manager to join our Prevention Team in Service Headquarters in Exeter
. The position is full time (
37 hours per week) and available for up to 12-months on a fixed term contract basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £42,839 - £46,142 per annum.
About the role:
As the Road Safety and Community Risk Manager you will lead and develop a fit for purpose Road Safety and Community Risk provision for the Service and support the Community Safety Prevention Lead in management of the Community Safety Prevention department.
You will support the strategic vision for DSFRS in working with Local Communities in line with current Government and NFCC direction taking account of HMICFRS reports and recommendations and the Fire Standards Board and the Services CRMP to reduce risk. Specifically, through delivery of Road Safety and Community Risk campaigns initiatives.
You will also reduce specific risk in the Communities of Devon and Somerset by recommending, developing, and delivering strategies within Community Risk and Road safety which support the organisation to effectively:
- Prevent incidents, secondary fires, RTC’s, injuries and deaths in Devon and Somerset using a risk-based methodology.
- Engage with our Communities to reduce incidents, injuries and deaths ensuring we are inclusive and reaching those most at risk.
- Increase resources, capacity, cohesion, and resilience in Communities to deal with issues of safety and risk through targeted delivery by our road safety, and Community Risk activity.
- Support Service Delivery in reducing and preventing incidents.
Key responsibilities and duties of the role:
- To support the strategic direction for working with Communities around Road Safety and Community Risk ensuring strategies, policies, procedures, standards and systems are being implemented, managed and evaluated to ensure continuous improvement and quality of service by:
- Maintaining an overview of legislative and best practice changes that impact Road Safety and Education delivery to our most at risk groups.
- Support Community Safety Prevention Lead in developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing the Community Safety Strategy and Prevention Plan.
- Work with team leads to create strategy and delivery plans for Road Safety and Community Risk.
- Oversee development of pilots for new Road Safety and Community Safety initiatives using a data-led and best practice approach.
- Identifying areas of training required to improve provision, delivery and efficacy of Road Safety and Community Risk interventions.
- Identifying areas for efficient working and service delivery across road safety and community risk partners including aligning strategy and delivery with regional partnerships who share the same goals – e.g. Vision Zero South West Road Safety.
- To provide expert knowledge of road safety and community safety initiatives and current direction in these areas by:
- Supporting the Community Safety Prevention Lead in briefing Senior Managers, the Service, Fire Authority, and other Fire and Rescue Services upon request.
- Maintaining a professional knowledge by networking, attending training courses, reviewing professional publications, and involvement with national, regional and local working groups e.g. NFCC, RSGB, Vision Zero South West and South of England Road Safety Partnership.
- To manage the performance of the Road Safety and Community Risk teams by ensuring that work is allocated appropriately, work plans agreed, results are monitored, feedback and support given and any performance issues are resolved.
- To provide leadership, direction and clarity to the Road Safety and Community Risk teams.
- Day to day management of the leads for these teams.
- Attendance at key meetings both internal and external for Road Safety and Community Risk (e.g. NFCC Water Safety, RSGB Road Safety etc.)
- Authorisation and management of resources and the Prevention budget in relation to road safety and community risk.
