- To contribute to the delivery of patients individual care programmes under the direction of the clinical teams.
- Collection of blood samples from patients, staff and also patients with difficult venous access referred by GPs and other Healthcare organisations.
- To work in ward environment as well as out patient clinics.
- To support the provision of a Trust wide Phlebotomy service covering 365 days of the year.
- To practice in accordance with Trust standards and statutory requirements and operate within the boundaries of the role and assessed competencies.

More detail about the role
Phlebotomists have a key role within the Hospital. As a Phlebotomist you will be trained in meeting patients and collecting important blood samples as part of their care at the main RDUH Exeter site. Previous Phlebotomy experience, although desirable, is not essential as full training and support will be given. More importantly, we are looking for people who can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and can use tact and consideration when dealing with patients.
The service relies on using a computerised ordering and collection system therefore candidates should be familiar with the use of IT systems at home or in previous employment. Applicants must also be able to work on a roster including some Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
Working Pattern: Options of 20 hours per week substantive post and bank hours are available.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers)
