Job Summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a full time HCPC-registered Psychologist to develop specialist expertise and experience within a Clinical Health Psychology service. This post is suitable for newly qualified psychologists seeking to consolidate their skills, as well as for more experienced clinicians looking to broaden their clinical portfolio. You will join a dynamic, supportive Clinical Health Psychology & Neuropsychology team within the Trust.
Initially, the role will be primarily based within the Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) Psychology Service and other departments supported across Royal Devon University Healthcare (RDUH) Foundation Trust, Exeter. Over time, there may be opportunities to work with a range of teams across the wider CHNP service. You will have access to excellent professional support, supervision, and training linked to the role.
The post would suit a clinician with an interest in health psychology-based approaches that can incorporate therapies such as CBT, CAT, ACT, CFT, EMDR. Opportunities for further training in these approaches are available. We have collaborative links with the NHS Talking Therapies service that has a long-term conditions team as part of a matched care approach.
Main duties of the job
:
Delivering psychological assessments and individual therapies for people with Functional Neurological Disorder, working closely with colleagues in the FND Psychology team and contributing to service development and innovation within the FND pathway. Working alongside senior clinicians to deliver health psychology input to medical teams within the Trust; offering psychological assessments and interventions for people with physical health conditions in outpatient settings.
Supporting group-based psychoeducation sessions in collaboration with allied health professionals. Actively contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, valuing close working relationships with healthcare colleagues. Providing teaching and training for multidisciplinary staff as required. Engaging with research and training opportunities through strong links with the University of Exeter Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme, including potential involvement in service-related research and trainee placements.

The principal purpose is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of people within the post holder’s specialist field of practice. The role sits within the Health Psychology and Neuropsychology Department and involves a dynamic role across multiple teams within Clinical Health and Neuropsychology Services, including the Functional Neurological Disorder Service, with strong links to the Integrated Psychological Medicine Pathway in Liaison Psychiatry.
