We’re looking for an exceptional OPV Foundation Dev Ops Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.

As an OPV Foundation Dev Ops Engineer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home.

This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Your world of expertise

As an OPV (OpMet Production and Visualisation) Foundation Dev Ops Engineer, you would support live OpMet (Operational Meteorology) solutions with an emphasis on creating and maintaining usable, accessible and supportable services for our OpMet community.

This post covers the support and/or enhancement of both SWIFT (Visual Weather and DPF, our Desktop Production Framework) and our cutting-edge, next generation forecast system, Vortex.

  • Help to transform technical requirements into operational Dev Ops processes
  • Build medium-complexity stories and solutions (with guidance)
  • Identify and resolve issues that are hindering operational delivery

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.

As our Foundation Dev Ops Engineer - OPV, your total reward package will be up to £42,524 annually, which includes:

  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
  • Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £2,000 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this marketdrivenallowance from 1st April 2026 until 31st March 2027 in your monthly pay.
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.
Essential Criteria ,skillsand experience:

1. Configuration, Programming and Build: You can apply standards and methods to ensure system compliance. You can work effectively with stakeholders and colleagues. You can use agreed specifications to design, configure, code, test or document low-to-medium complexity software. You have a working knowledge of Linux systems and Cloud technologies (e.g. AWS), while understanding cyber security best practice. (Expert by Nature) (Lead Criteria)

2. Development Process Optimisation and System Design: You can identify process optimisation opportunities (with guidance) and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions.
