Key areas of work and advantageWe’ll give you a structured 4‑year graduate training scheme that is a blend of on‑the‑job development and formal education, culminating in chartership with a relevant professional body. With yourself as the central focus, the programme will develop your technical, specialist and leadership skills so that you end the programme as a technical leader ready to tackle key environmental challenges.
What you’ll do- Work alongside subject experts within your base team.
- Create an individualised development plan that aligns with your journey and the needs of the Agency.
- Collect evidence of your progress to progress through professional memberships toward chartership.
- Attend your base office a minimum of 2 days per week and visit other offices or sites as required.
- Take on an incident role (after your first year) and engage in environmental and/or flood incident responses.
- Perform duties that enhance technical expertise.
- Take and reflect on opportunities to develop personal and leadership skills.
- Actively participate in the Graduate Trainee community.
- Collaborate with other teams to broaden your understanding of the Agency’s remit of protecting healthy ecosystems.

To be eligible for the Graduate Training Scheme you must meet ALL the following criteria:
- UK, Commonwealth or EEA national with a right to work in the UK.
- Graduated with an environment or science honours‑based degree, master’s or PhD from June 2021 to September 2026, or have current working knowledge of the subject.
- Some roles may require a driving licence – check individual role profiles for details.
- Pension: Around 19% contribution to a career‑average scheme invested in ethical, renewable energy businesses.
- Leave: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
