Ward Clerk

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) in a ward clerk role covering maternity leave.

Our admin team is made up of a Team Leader and there are 18 members of our friendly dedicated ward clerk admin staff and 4 patient flow coordinators.

Acute medical unit ward clerk – maternity cover, fixed term.

AMU deals with approximately 34,500 referrals per year and is an exciting and stimulating place to work. You will deal with referrals from the GPs, paramedics and ED, admitting patients onto the ward and dealing with their subsequent pathway through the hospital.

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a pleasant telephone manner. It is essential that you have the ability to interact with patients calmly, sensitively and efficiently both on the telephone and in person.

You must be able to use your own initiative, prioritising your workload to meet the changing needs of the department, as AMU is a high pressure fast paced environment.

Working pattern: 2 days per week (15 hours per week) on a rolling 4-week Rota. Copy of the Rota available on request.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026‑7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date, remuneration will be based on the 2025‑6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers)
