The Candidate:
You will be AAT Level 4 (or equivalent) qualified with at least 2 years’ experience in practice. You should be confident preparing year-end accounts and tax returns for a range of business types and able to support junior colleagues. A proactive and organised mindset, along with strong client-facing skills and knowledge of systems like Xero, Sage, and Quick Books, is essential.

The Role:
This is a hybrid Semi Senior position based in Exeter, collaborating closely with managers and supporting a portfolio of clients. You will prepare statutory accounts, VAT returns, tax computations, and assist with management accounts. The role also includes regular client contact and supervision of junior team members, all while continuing your own professional development.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and partnerships.
• Produce statutory financial statements from source records.
• Maintain client books and records on a regular basis.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Complete corporation tax computations and basic tax planning.
• Prepare both company and individual tax returns.
• Assist with the preparation of management accounts.
• Respond to client queries and provide accurate advice.
• Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients.
• Conduct on-site client visits to support and build relationships.
• Support and supervise trainees and junior colleagues, assisting with their queries.
• Work closely with managers to support their tasks and delegate responsibilities.
• Communicate proactively with managers regarding work progress and issues.
• Complete timesheets accurately and on time each day.
• Maintain a high standard of organisation, accuracy, and timeliness in all work.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and stay up to date with industry changes.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in practice.
• Proficiency with Sage, Quick Books, and Xero.
• Ability to manage own workload efficiently.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Team player with client-facing confidence.
• Experience preparing both company and individual tax returns.
• Exposure to management accounts and tax planning.
• Prior experience in mentoring or supervising junior staff.
