DescriptionRT Marke, part of the Sumer Group, provides accountancy, audit, tax, and advisory services to a diverse client base, with a particular focus on supporting SMEs and owner‑managed businesses. We pride ourselves on combining technical expertise with a hands‑on, personal approach, helping clients navigate challenges and achieve growth. We would be open for this role to be based at our Exeter, Bideford and Plymouth offices.
Key Responsibilities- Lead audit assignments from planning through to completion, ensuring compliance with UK auditing standards and firm policies.
- Perform risk assessments, plan audit procedures, and execute audit testing for a portfolio of SME and owner‑managed business clients.
- Prepare and review audit working papers and supporting documentation, ensuring accuracy and adherence to auditing standards.
- Supervise and review the work of junior audit staff, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their professional development.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor on audit matters.
- Manage multiple audit engagements to ensure deadlines are met efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to provide additional value to clients through advisory services and process improvement recommendations.
- Liaise with managers, partners, and other departments to ensure effective delivery of audit and assurance services.
- Stay up to date with changes in auditing and accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry developments.
- ACA/ACCA qualified (or finalist with strong experience).
- Previous experience in audit and accounts within a UK accountancy practice.
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (FRS 102 in particular).
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build client rapport.
- Experience in mentoring or supervising junior staff.
- A proactive approach and commercial awareness, particularly in working with SMEs and owner‑managed businesses.
