- 10 bed ICU - Types of Cases / Patients in ICU:
Critically ill adult patients: medical emergencies, post surgical care, respiratory failure, sepsis etc. (the typical mix for community hospital ICUs) — since there are intensivists and hospitalists, and the hospital handles specialty services (cardiac, surgery, etc.). - Some pediatric critical care:
Exeter doesn't have its own full pediatric ICU in many reports; often when children become critically ill, they may need to be transferred to larger tertiary pediatric centers. - But the ICU does manage some ill children in certain situations (e.g. early in illness, stabilizing) when pediatric needs are involved.
- Stroke patients:
Exeter has telestroke / tele - neurology services, because they are certified as a Primary Stroke Center. So acute stroke patients may be managed in ICU if needed.
