This is a per-diem opportunity, covering Sunday through Thursday 7 p.m.–7 a.m. shifts. The Health Center operates 24/7 and follows the academic calendar when students are on campus (September through the first week of June and the first week of July through the first week of August).
DescriptionThe Nurse will use a team approach to healthcare, applying nursing processes, medical procedures and testing, critical thinking and referrals. The Nurse will effectively interact with students, parents, physicians and other health care providers with the aim of assisting students to assume responsibility for their own health and wellness.
Job Responsibilities Health and Well-Being Promotion- Performs comprehensive physical assessments independent of other nursing colleagues.
- Uses critical thinking in evaluating the needs of each student, making appropriate referrals as needed to NP/PA/MD, counselors, athletic trainers, nutritionists and/or outside MDs.
- Ensures that physicians and outside providers are provided comprehensive diagnostic information.
- Independently initiates and implements nursing care plan.
- Works as part of a team to provide care for crisis intervention, acute illness, injury, and emotional concerns.
- Admits students to Health Center for overnight observation and treatment.
- Draws blood, calls in prescriptions, dispenses medications, administers immunizations, and performs other medical procedures and tests as deemed necessary and ordered by NP/PA/MD.
- Observes students who pose safety concerns.
- Develops relationships of trust built on respect, ethics, professionalism and effective communications.
- Uses effective teaching and counseling skills.
- Uses concise, thorough documentation to promote continuity of care and keep health records complete, accurate and up-to-date.
- Effectively communicates with parents, faculty, health services team, and outside providers while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Follows LHWC protocol and procedures, adheres to NH Board of Nursing scope of practice, and maintains competencies.
- RN with current nursing license required.
- 3–5 years nursing experience.
- 1–2 years critical care nursing preferred.
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods and procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties; and medical supplies and equipment.
- Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
- Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action.
- Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to registered nursing.
- Patient assessment skills.

- Remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while performing clinical duties and documentation.
- Move about the health center, go up and down flights of steps, stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift; respond promptly to medical emergencies.
- Lift, carry, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds as necessary for clinical care.
- Have adequate manual dexterity for medical procedures, operating equipment, and using a computer or electronic medical record system.
- Adequate visual and auditory abilities to assess patients, monitor vital signs, and respond to emergency situations effectively.
- Adapt to a fast‑paced environment and prioritize and manage multiple tasks with interruptions.
- Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
- Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical/health screening examination.
- Position is considered “Essential Personnel.”
