SCOPE OF POSITION:The Director of Nursing will provide leadership for a staff of approximately 150 and will oversee a $16 million dollar budget. The individual filling this position will be responsible to lead, manage and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Department to ensure the highest quality of care to all residents/clients.

The Director of Nursing is a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team that maintains a cooperative relationship among the nursing staff by providing support, guidance, direction, and feedback, and further, maintains a professional work environment that values nursing staff and treats residents & clients with dignity.
This position determines staffing level needs based on the needs of residents & clients, confirms the Minimum Data Set (MDS) is processed timely, keeps abreast of changes in legislation and updates/implements in-house policies in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Services, reviews staff education program with the Infection Preventionist & Clinical Educator to ensure programs are current/required annual education requirements are met, develops and implements appropriate plans for quality and risk management corrections, monitors/confirms/submits all reportable events and further, determines applicable resolutions.
As this position directly oversees all nursing staff, the Director of Nursing participates in the recruitment/selection of licensed nursing personnel, the new employee orientation program, quality improvement activities, educational programs, and reviews staff performance evaluations. The Director of Nursing also prepares and plans the Nursing Department Budget and monitors expenditures/ensures adequate budgeting. Establishes relationships with community groups, writes articles, makes presentations or serves in a leadership position for a professional nursing society.
Requires the ability to work hours based on the needs of the facility, including varying shifts and weekends, along with the availability to be on call 24/7.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid, unencumbered New Hampshire RN license.
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience as a Director of Nursing preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of Long Term Care (or equivalent) supervisory and/or managerial experience required.
- Intermediate computer proficiency skills with Microsoft Office applications.
- Must have a solid working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records systems.
- Familiarity with Time and Attendance software systems is necessary.
- Must have good interpersonal relations with proven communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be able to cope with frequent interruptions and manage multiple, competing priorities.
- CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
- To engage in critical thinking and rational inquiry, using nursing processes and current models to improve healthcare outcomes; develop organized documentation and approaches to systematic components of the nursing process.
- To promote a nursing culture of professional excellence and achievement, dedicated toward advancing excellence through lifelong learning.
- To demonstrate effective leadership model of care, communication and cultural responsiveness for interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- To be an effective collaborator of healthcare, committed to utilizing professional knowledge of best practices in health promotion, disease prevention, quality, safety and equality.
