The Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational integrity of The Elms Hotel & Spa, a historic full-service hotel and spa. This role leads the engineering team to ensure all building systems, guest rooms, public spaces, spa facilities, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and guest experience. The Engineering Manager plays a key role in capital planning, preventive maintenance, vendor management, and regulatory compliance, while preserving the unique character and historic nature of The Elms.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management- Lead, train, schedule, and develop the engineering/maintenance team.
- Establish clear expectations, provide coaching, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.
- Coordinate on-call coverage and emergency response protocols.
- Oversee daily maintenance operations for guest rooms, public areas, spa, pools, kitchens, laundry, and back-of-house spaces.
- Ensure timely response to maintenance requests and work orders with minimal guest disruption.
- Maintain and operate HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, elevators, fire/life safety systems, and other critical infrastructure.
- Monitor building automation systems and energy management initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) program.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety risks, and capital improvement opportunities.
- Protect hotel assets through proper maintenance, documentation, and inventory control.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, fire/life safety, health department, and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate records for inspections, permits, certifications, and safety drills.
- Lead safety training and ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Act as primary point of contact during emergencies and coordinate with local authorities as needed.
- Assist with planning, budgeting, and execution of capital projects and renovations.
- Coordinate contractors and vendors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to brand and safety standards.
- Support long-term facility planning while respecting the historic integrity of The Elms.
