Range 16 Steps 1-11 / $50,539.44 - $73,385.74. Salary (External):
Range 16 Steps 1-4 / $50,539.44 - $57,393.33. The internal salary range is used for applicants who are current NJ state employees with underlying classified status for promotional calculations.

Position OverviewThe Department of Facilities and Administrative Services provides a broad array of services to the campus community. This position resides within the Electric Shop of the Office of Facilities Operations. Work involves reading electrical sketches, schematics, plans and specifications in accordance with the electrical code or approved trade practices and established procedures.
ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Supervisor of the Electric Shop, the Electrician performs skilled electrical work in the installation, repair, adjustment, and maintenance of campus electrical systems and equipment. Ensure electrical systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable codes and standards while supporting the College’s mission of a well-maintained learning and working environment.
Qualifications- Ability to analyze problems involved in the maintenance and repair of electrical circuits, systems and equipment (including 480 volts and lower) and communicate effectively with supervisor, colleagues and clients.
- Broad experience in commercial/industrial environments as an electrician involved in installation, inspection, repair, servicing and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Physical ability to walk distances in all weather, navigate stairs, climb ladders, use scaffolding or powered lifts, kneel, negotiate tight spaces, and work in high spaces.
- Ability to lift tools, materials and equipment up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions year-round and in limited lighting with extreme temperatures in non-air-conditioned spaces when accessing attic or roof locations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment and rely on stairs to move materials in buildings without elevators.
- Three (3) years of experience in installation, inspection, repair, servicing and maintenance of electrical equipment, appliances, machinery, and circuits.
- NOTE:
Applicants without the required experience may substitute a current Electrical Contractor license issued by the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs for three (3) years of experience. - NOTE:
Appointees may be required to pass a colorblindness test.
- High School Diploma
- Valid driver’s license in good standing; responds to emergency calls and overtime as required by departmental protocol.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance for electrical circuits, systems and equipment (including 480 volts and lower).
- Ability to install, repair and maintain electrical circuits, systems and equipment (including 480 volts and lower).
- Carrying a departmental radio to receive service calls and request assistance.
- Maintain clean work and shop areas; ensure cleanup is completed before end of workday.
- Comply with college occupational health, safety, security and environmental regulations.
