Classification SummaryThis class is the first level in the Maintenance series. Incumbents are responsible for performing routine maintenance activities by providing general preventative maintenance and assisting higher-level mechanics, plumbers, and electricians in performing general maintenance and repairs; performing snow removal duty; providing support to event setup as needed. May need to assist and mentor temporary and student workers.
Minimum Education and/or Training and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and a minimum of one year of experience required.
Licensing RequirementsValid Driver’s License
Classification Duties- Perform interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. (B2)
- Perform routine building cleaning work. (A1)
- Maintains an inventory of supplies. (A1)
- Provide support to higher-level maintenance staff as needed. (A1)
- Perform required inclement weather duties as directed during regular or unscheduled shift days/hours to assure the safety of campus navigation for all pedestrians and motorists including but not limited to, plowing snow, sleet, ice, and chemical application to parking lots and sidewalks, entrances, etc. (A1)
- Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
- Monitor student and temporary workers assignments and productivity as needed for basic B&G work and needs.
- Monitor and maintain work order and preventative maintenance program.
- Flexibility and attention to needed tasks requested that are not an official work order but requested by department management.
- Perform routine exterior building and campus infrastructure cleaning work.
- Monitor bulk salt and inclement weather supplies.
- Perform event set-ups, tables, chairs, commencement ceremony etc.
- Receive deliveries and oversized packages as necessary in a timely manner upon arrival, physically, pallet jack, forklift etc. Place or deliver items to appropriate labeled/addressed location.
- Comply with all College and relevant governmental safety guidelines.
Employees of Jefferson College must reside in Missouri or Illinois.
Position Knowledge/Skills Knowledge- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
- Understanding of carpentry principles
- Understanding of mechanical and engine components
- Basic understanding of locking systems
- Basic knowledge regarding door hardware installation
- Basic knowledge of plumbing
- Basic knowledge of painting
- Applicable computers and software
- Performing general labor and maintenance in assigned area of responsibility
- Operating applicable tools, equipment, and machinery
- Reading and comprehending manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints
- Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information
