The Plastics Engineer will be responsible for plastic part design and development, material selection, and quoting of plastic components, including injection molding tooling associated with manufacturing. This role involves establishing manufacturing controls, quality plans, and optimizing molding environments. The ideal candidate must be able to interact professionally with customers, suppliers, and internal teams at a high level.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design plastic parts and injection-mold fabrication processes.
  • Develop and improve injection molding manufacturing processes.
  • Research and implement new manufacturing techniques and process improvements.
  • Analyze manufacturing and production data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Evaluate production capabilities of molding machinery and manufacturing lines.
  • Ensure quality output of molded components and adherence to quality standards.
  • Design engineered plastic parts, including insert molding of components and assemblies.
  • Assist in mold design for both hot runner and cold runner molds.
  • Establish optimal molding parameters and process controls.
  • Design and develop necessary secondary operation components.
  • Analyze and implement quality control plans.
  • Review and interpret Moldflow simulation data, finite element analysis (FEA), and stress/fatigue analysis.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure project success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

Experience Required

  • 3–5 years of experience working with new or existing customers on injection molding projects involving product design, quoting, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of polymer material properties, plastic injection molding processes, surface treatment and functionalization, and heat transfer principles.
