Job Summary

Pet Smart’s Process Lead (Retail Operations Supervisor) shares responsibility for driving operational excellence in stores while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. The role oversees merchandising and inventory management, pet care operations, opening and closing the store, managing associates, and maintaining a safe, organized environment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • People Leadership: Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, provide training on product knowledge and presentation standards, facilitate associate experience, support development through onboarding, mentoring, and coaching, delegate and validate completion of daily tasks, act as leader on duty, address associate complaints, and recognize and celebrate associate engagement.
  • Store Operations and Overall Store

    Experience:

    Execute merchandise strategies, manage inventory levels and conduct regular audits, analyze sales trends for stock replenishment and markdown decisions, operate POS systems and handle cash transactions, maintain store standards and lead a culture of empowerment, share responsibility with store opening and closing procedures, complete monthly live cycle counts, manage pet care maintenance and standard, ensure pet parents have a positive experience with online orders, support associate and pet parent experience at all levels, act promptly for sick or injured pets, and follow company policies for new store‑owned pet arrivals.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: Guide and support the development of other associates, provide feedback on associate performance to direct supervisor, and act as Leader when other Leaders are not in the store.
  • Essential Physical Demands and Work Environment: Stand, walk, climb a ladder, use hands to handle, feel, hold, write; frequently reach with hands and arms (stoop, kneel, crouch); specific vision abilities include depth perception; lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally team lift more than 100 pounds; operate in a wet environment with pet hair, moderate noise level with occasional higher levels, and exposure to live animals.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of retail supervisory experience in a customer‑focused environment.
  • Full‑time availability required; flexibility in schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in maintaining a visually appealing store layout.
