Position OverviewJoin our Inpatient Palliative Care Team at Optum focused on providing compassionate, clinically excellent care to seriously ill patients. The role centers on helping patients and families understand their medical future and aligning care with their goals.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct initial consults and follow-up visits for hospitalized patients.
- Guide patients through prognosis and care planning.
- Manage symptoms and oversee treatment plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains.
- Participate in daily huddles, bedside family conferences, and interdisciplinary rounds.
- Document care accurately in Epic EMR.
- Support healthcare providers dealing with patient distress.
- May involve teaching residents and students.
- Flexible 4 or 5‑day workweek (40 hours).
- Integration with hospital teams (hospitalists, critical care, surgical, emergency).
- Strong emphasis on team collaboration and feedback.
- Washington state NP license (or ability to obtain)
- NP certification
- DEA and controlled substance licenses
- BLS certification
- 2+ years in palliative care, acute medicine, or geriatrics
- Direct palliative care experience
- Comfort with complex medical cases and prognostication
- Clinician‑led, inclusive, and supportive environment
