Description
OPEN TO MEMBERS OF AFSCME 109 PUBLIC WORKS - SOLID WASTE ADDENDUM BARGAINING UNIT ONLY. This job posting is to fill a vacant Site Attendant I position and is open to the following employees: all current regular AFSCME 109 Public Works-Solid Waste Addendum Bargaining Unit employees (current Solid Waste regular employees will have precedence based on seniority date) and current AFSCME 109 Public Works-Solid Waste temporary employees.
Responsibilities- Provide excellent customer service to Solid Waste customers.
- Process transactions for solid waste fees.
- Perform manual labor tasks (sweeping, hosing, shoveling, lifting, and carrying heavy objects).
- Learn to operate equipment, including backhoes and forklifts.
- Work is day shift, including weekends and some holidays, at Solid Waste facilities.
Duties Assigned Will Include
- Provide excellent customer service to Solid Waste customers.
- Process transactions for solid waste fees.
- Perform manual labor and basic maintenance tasks as required.
- Learn to operate equipment such as backhoe and forklift.
- Assist with directing vehicles and maintaining site safety and cleanliness.
Basic Function
Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in support of solid waste operations, determines and collects fees for disposal of solid waste and recyclables, and operates light equipment needed to service disposal and recycling areas at Snohomish County Solid Waste facilities. The Site Attendant I position is a training position, working toward mandatory certification as a Site Attendant II or Site Attendant III.

Job Duties
- Obtain and record weights/volumes for materials delivered to transfer stations and recycling areas.
- Determine cubic measurement of loads and collect fees; record cash as required.
- Provide information and assistance to customers regarding disposal and recycling procedures, fees, rules, and options.
- Direct incoming and departing vehicles to disposal and recycling areas.
- Operate light equipment (backhoe, forklift) and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
- Load recyclables and transport material as needed; maintain a clean work environment.
- Open and lock gates at appointed times.
Job Duties
- Prepare reports as required.
- Perform site maintenance as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job-related tests.
Special Requirements- Valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card within six months of employment.
- Satisfactory completion of certification on: backhoe, forklift, scale automation system, and timekeeping system within six months.
- Satisfactory completion of eight-hour Hazardous Waste training with certification.
- A post-offer drug screen and a Physical Capacities Evaluation are conditions of employment.
- Criminal background check must be passed for final selection.
Work is performed outside and inside a facility. The work involves outdoor/indoor environments, rotating shifts, and may require working evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary. Employee may be asked to work at different locations with little advance notice.
