Position: METALS SUPERVISOR ESR

Overview

Everett Ship Repair is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere ship repair facility. Founded in 2019, ESR offers repair, maintenance, and conversion services for commercial vessels, with focus on workboats and passenger vessels. We seek tradesmen who value learning opportunities and want to apply their skills in a progressive environment.

We are seeking an Experienced Metals Supervisor who will lead the Journeymen and Apprentice Fitters and Welders, oversee the metal trades including welding and machinery assembly, plan and coordinate labor, materials, tools, and equipment, and manage change orders and safety documentation. The role will partner with HR on actions related to hiring, firing, or formal discipline and execute as appropriate.

Responsibilities
  • Execute the full range of journeyman duties and oversee daily work assignments and expectations for the team or projects.
  • Assign tasks, ensure completion within deadlines, resolve conflicts, and motivate optimal performance from department trades and support staff.
  • Set daily and weekly goals for crew members.
  • Provide general oversight of personnel, including time reporting.
  • Review the quality of work and report deficiencies.
  • Observe workers’ performance, identify training needs, and provide needed training and answers.
  • Foster collaboration and teamwork within the team.
  • Work with QC to identify defects requiring repair or rework.
  • Contribute to performance reviews and raise concerns that may warrant further action.
  • Ensure employees are properly directed and have the necessary tooling, equipment, and drawings to accomplish work.
  • Provide on-the-job training to supervises.
  • Ensure crew members are qualified to perform their work.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules.
  • Conduct personal inspections to ensure correct procedures are followed and work aligns with plans and specifications; identify and address deficiencies.
  • Update project progress accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Handle planning, including staffing, scheduling, tooling, materials, equipment, and subcontracts.
  • Assist in administration of the Apprentice Fitting, Welding and Machinist apprenticeship programs.
  • Prepare for and execute effective shift changes to clarify work progress and ensure smooth transitions toward milestones.
  • Model standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Lead by example to ensure correct construction procedures and compliance with plans and specifications; recommend corrective action as needed.
  • Support company direction with constructive suggestions for practice improvements and act as a recognized leader among peers.
  • May attend daily production meetings and coordinate assignments with other shops.
Qualifications
  • 4 years of related experience or 8 years of related shipbuilding/ship repair experience.
  • Must be a highly qualified journeyman.
  • Knowledge of ship construction and ability to troubleshoot issues in real time.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute from drawings.
  • Ability to physically traverse all areas of the facility and yard, go aboard marine vessels, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and wear PPE.
  • Skill in directing and coordinating the work of others; leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Proficiency with personal computer and applications such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Positive attitude, calm demeanor, adaptability, and flexibility in dynamic environments.
  • Ownership and accountability for personal and team performance against Company Standards.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and master increasingly challenging assignments.
  • Technical proficiency to perform tasks the journeyman might be assigned; applicable certifications as needed to lead tasks.
What Additional Things Would Distinguish You
  • Diverse experience as Supervisor or Lead in a metal trade.
  • Previous experience as Lead in a metal trade (Machinists, Fitters, or Welders).
  • Knowledge of ship construction, shipboard systems, equipment, and operations.
