Job Summary

The Controller oversees the organization’s accounting operations and ensures the integrity and accuracy of all financial data and reporting. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position manages the daily functions of the accounting and payroll departments, including general ledger integrity, financial reporting, budget coordination, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory standards. The Controller serves as the primary liaison for external audits and third-party reviews, ensuring sound internal controls and transparency.

Working closely with the CFO, the Controller provides financial analysis and insights that support informed decision-making and organizational goals. This position provides management and supervision to designated staff and fosters a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Financial skills in budgeting, cash flow management, and participating in all phases of the accounting cycle which includes:
    Accounts Payable;
    Accounts Receivable, revenue, expense, grants management, month‑end and year‑end close, preparation of financial statements, cost allocation, payroll and benefits.
  • Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications:
    Word, Outlook and especially Excel.

Preferred:

  • Experience with or exposure to accounting system administrator duties
Education
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting or in lieu of degree, a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Preferred:

  • MBA or MSAcc

Experience

  • Accounting experience (5 years).
  • Supervisory/management experience at the department level (3 years).
  • Understanding and practical use of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with automated accounting systems.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with community health centers, medical/dental clinics or practices, hospital systems or other healthcare settings.
  • Not‑for‑profit accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with the accounting and billing of federal grants.
  • Familiarity with payroll and benefit processing.
  • Significant Financial Planning and Analysis experience.
  • Experience with Sage Intaact
  • Experience with UKG Pro.
  • Staff Audit Experience.

Credentials

Preferred:

  • Public Accountant (CPA) certification by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
